Linoit in 4th grade

We started our unit on fractions today.  As an introduction, I created a Linot for students to finish my sentence of "A fraction is...". It was a very easy way to gauge prior knowledge and see exactly where we needed to start.   We used manipulatives and devices during the lesson.  By the end, students did another Linoit board to show learning of fractions and decomposing a fraction.

Early Release Day - Staff members are tech learners, too!

While our students were home enjoying their time off from school on our 2/13 Early Release Day, BCES staff members Brought Their Own Device to different professional development sessions.  One team's focus was investigating technology tools to help promote students' mastery of math vocabulary.  Mrs. Boylan, Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Collins, Mrs. D'Elia, Mrs. Hunsberger, Ms. Page & Mrs. Shearer had fun learning and brainstorming ways they can use Linoit and the StoryKit app with students.  #lifelonglearners  #technologyrocks

Popplet ~ All About Writing

My first graders love the Popplet app! Can you tell by their faces?!?  After using the child friendly search engine, One Key, to research an animal they gather and organize their facts on Popplet.  They worked together based on which animal they chose to write their All About piece about.  My students that have brought their own devices have even created Popplets at home for fun.  :)  Popplet allows the student to add bubbles around a main bubble similar to a bubble map.  They can add text, photos, or drawings in each bubble.

Investigations in Second Grade

Students researched questions in second grade to determine the relationship between air and a parachute. How does air impact the movement of a parachute and why? Great investigating!

Second Grade Kahoot Crazy with BYOD

Tracks 1 and 2 second grade tested their geometric knowledge playing kahoot in learning teams to answer geometry questions. They rose to the challenge!

Fun and Safe Research!

My first graders had a great time using the website Onekey to research new information for their All About Books in Writing. Onekey is a safe, kid friendly search engine. The students had a great time working together to find new facts to add to their writing!

Look how awesome they are!  If my six year olds can do it...so can you!

edshelf

Yesterday at our BYOD workshop, they shared a website that you may find very helpful!

Check out https://www.edshelf.com/search to find the right educational tools for your needs.

Edshelf is a discovery engine of websites, mobile apps, desktop programs, and electronic products for teaching and learning.

Want to try a new app but you aren't sure if it will work on all of your students' devices? Search the name of the tool at edshelf and it will give you more information.

Webquest

In class today we learned about air pressure by using a webquest.  Students scanned the website using a QR code and then researched the webpage to answer the questions and learn about air pressure.

Poll Everywhere

We started fractions on Friday and I used the website Poll Everywhere to ask the students questions. Students went to my page and then typed in answers to my questions. As they did that their responses came up in word clouds. The more they said a word the bigger it got on the screen. We discussed why the words were bigger and how they were important!
